Community Needs Assessment in Experiential Learning

Community Needs Assessment in Experiential Learning

This project is a collaboration between the University of Guelph's Community Engaged Scholarship Institute and Student Life. In the spring 2018, a community needs assessment was conducted to support the University of Guelph's Experiential Learning Hub and the University's strategic priority to expand and enhance experiencial learning for students. The needs assessment saught to better understand community partners' needs and perspectives, and to strengthen experiential learning partnerships between community organizations and the University.

The community needs assessment included two phases:

  1. a survey was sent to community organizations in April 2018. The survey was completed by 84 current, past, or potential partner organizations.
  2. a community roundtable discussion took place on the morning of June 6th, 2018. 28 representatives from community organizations attended the roundtable and engaged in a facilitated discussion around the ways to improve experiential learning in Guelph.

The Community Needs Assessment in Experiential Learning report, which summarizes the findings from this process, has now been released. An infographic visualizing some of the key results is also available (see attached).
