Hiring graduate students for immigration research: Apply by February 19

CESI and the Guelph-Wellington Local Immigration Partnership are seeking one or two graduate students with excellent research and writing skills for 5-week part-time (around 10 hours per week) work opportunities. Students will conduct qualitative research on the services provided to international students to help them transition to permanent residents. Tasks might include literature reviews and scans of existing programs and services, stakeholder interviews, data analysis and report writing.

Negotiating the boundaries of an urban classroom: experiences in engaged learning

Melissa Tanti, Coordinator of Community Engaged Learning with CESI, recently published Creating a contact zone: Negotiating the boundaries of an urban classroom. In this co-authored journal article, she reflects on her experience teaching a community engaged learning course in humanities at Ryerson. She raises critical questions about the role of instructors, and describes her efforts to foster students' self-development by anchoring their learning in community engagement.

Upcycle Kitchen receives 2 prizes at CBaSE pitch competition

Congratulations! The Hub Sandbox took home two awards at the CBaSE Hub Startup pitch competition on Wednesday, December 5.

The Hub Sandbox is an entrepreneurship program for students supported by CESI in collaboration with the Center for Business and Social Entreprise (CBaSE). The Hub brings together community engagement and social entrepreneurship best practices to address community-identified needs.
