In this role you will be gathering information about how Canadian universities respond to student food insecurity on their campus. Your work will support “Promoting Food Security in Higher Education,” a collaboration between the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (UofG), the University of British Columbia, McMaster University, the University of Ottawa, and Meal Exchange.

How to Apply

Please submit:

  1. A cover letter (max 1 page)
  2. Your resume or LinkedIn profile to Sam Laban at slaban@uoguelph.ca

Deadline for submission: 12 noon, Tuesday, Feb 9th, 2021

Interviews of shortlisted applicants will be held remotely on Feb 10th and 11th.

About the Role

There is growing evidence that university students experience high rates of food insecurity. The “Promoting Food Security in Higher Education” initiative advances efforts address these high rates of food insecurity. This includes an online conference in March 2021, and on-going network building between university students, administrators, students, staff, researchers and food service providers.

This research project will support the “Promoting Food Security in Higher Education” initiative by:

  • Identifying universities in Canada that are ready to take action in addressing student food insecurity
  • Identifying best practices and emerging approaches to addressing student food insecurity that can guide campus stakeholders in taking action

This role will involve literature scans, internet searches, key informant interviews, and creative work developing a “readiness for action” assessment tool. You will work closely with partner organizations, particularly Meal Exchange, and you will create clear language summaries of the research findings.

This position reports to the facilitator of the Guelph Lab and will be fulfilled remotely (off-campus).
