This blog post was written by Jemma Llewellyn, a PhD student in Critical Studies in Improvisation and CESI’s Knowledge Mobilization Assistant. Over the Winter 2023, Jemma organized and co-facilitated Researchers for Change, a pilot project which brought together graduate students for informal learning and connection around topics of community engagement, collaboration and creativity in research. This piece gathers some of her thoughts and take-aways from her participation in this initiative.
The 2025 International Women's Day Conference, hosted by the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute at the University of Guelph, was a great success.
Participant presence and engagement made the event so meaningful.
For the 8th annual FREE International Women’s Day Conference, hosted by the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute at the University of Guelph, we are centering the experiences of those who deliver critical work to support underserved communities in the research space and beyond, acknowledging that such supporters may also see themselves in those communities. Rooting and Reckoning: Supporting the Supporters honours the complexities of navigating such lines of inquiry while highlighting the vital work individuals and groups are doing to accompany women* around the world.
*Women includes anyone who identifies with the gender category of woman. We resist essentialism, welcoming diverse expressions of womanhood.

This popular series is back again this semester!
Registration is now open for the Winter 2025 Skills for Research Impact Workshop Series. Offered in collaboration by the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute, the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance, and the Research Innovation Office, these workshops are designed for University of Guelph faculty, research staff and graduate students interested in enhancing the impact of their research.
Since its introduction in 2017, the University of Guelph's Certificate in Knowledge Mobilization has offered training in knowledge mobilization and evidence-informed decision-making to hundreds of professionals. The Certificate provides in-depth training into the principles and practices of knowledge mobilization – that is, the process by which research is shared, used and applied to inform real-life situations. Through three eight-week courses, participants learn to identify and address barriers to knowledge use and discover tools and techniques to enhance the societal impact of research and facilitate the development of evidence-informed policy and practice.
The Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (CESI) is committed to increasing access to the Certificate to graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, as well as individuals working in not-for-profits or social service organizations.
To support participation, CESI is offering bursaries to Course 1, Inform: Processes of knowledge translation and dissemination, taking place online from January 6, 2025, to March 16, 2025. The bursaries have a value of $1100 (community partners) and $910 (graduate students).
