The Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (CESI) is now accepting applications for the 2026–27 Community Engaged Teaching and Learning (CETL) Course Support Fund!

CESI invites applications from faculty members and course instructors within the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences (CSAHS) who are teaching a course(s) with a community engaged component in the Fall 2026 and/or Winter 2027 semesters. This funding cycle places a special emphasis on supporting first-time applicants and innovative, new community engagement practices. If you have not previously received funding from this grant or are piloting a novel approach to community-engaged learning in your course, we strongly encourage you to apply! Applications from outside of CSAHS will be considered on a case-by-case basis and funded where possible.

This fund supports faculty members and course instructors in developing meaningful community-engaged learning experiences that enrich student learning while contributing to community priorities.

Funding of $500 is typically available per successful applicant, with up to $700 awarded in exceptional circumstances. Funding may support a range of activities, including community partnerships, field trips, guest speaker honorariums, collaborative research, knowledge mobilization, and creative community-engaged projects.

Who can apply?

Faculty members and course instructors within the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences (CSAHS) teaching undergraduate or graduate courses with a community-engaged component in Fall 2026 and/or Winter 2027 are encouraged to apply. Applications from outside CSAHS will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to available funding.

This year's funding cycle particularly encourages first-time applicants and instructors piloting new or innovative approaches to community-engaged learning.

Application Deadline: Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:59 PM
