Clear Language Summaries

Many academic products, such as peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations, are inaccessible because of discipline-specific jargon and paywalls. In response to this issue, the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute obtained OMAFRA funding and offered clear language writing training for students and staff at the University of Guelph. Trainees produced over 130 clear language research summaries between 2011 and 2013. These summaries translate academic research into accessible language, creating a description that is easy to understand for all knowledge users.

Mobilizing Knowledge from the 2016 Guelph-Wellington Immigrant Survey

These three highlight sheets were created in order to help the Guelph-Wellington Local Immigration Partnership mobilize the findings and recommendations from its 2016 Immigrant survey report. They present key data on immigrants' 1) basic needs and belonging, 2) employment, education and training, and 3) access to services. The Local Immigration Partnership is using these visual summaries both as hand-outs and large-scale posters in order to share highlights from the report with a variety of stakeholders.
