Canadian postsecondary institutions are under growing pressure to adapt and innovate approaches to teaching and learning. Many instructors are integrating community engaged teaching and learning (CETL) across a range of course levels and types. CETL courses ensure attention to critical learning outcomes for students as well as meaningful community collaboration and action (Morton, Varghese, & Thomson, unpublished manuscript).

Congratulations to Dr. Melissa Tanti, CESI Community Engaged Learning (CETL) Coordinator, who has been awarded a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship to write a new book, Transnational Experiments.

We are pleased to share that, in March, CESI welcomed 6 new student assistants into a variety of roles. This cohort includes both undergraduate and graduate students from a range of programs across campus. They will be working across many of CESI's program areas, contributing to a special projects as well as regular, ongoing activities related to community engaged teaching and learning, knowledge mobilization, community engaged research, global engagement, and document accessibility.

The Community Engaged Scholarship Institute (CESI) is hiring 5 students to join our team. CESI is a research and teaching support unit in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences working in collaboration with community organizations to address community research needs. Our work enables community-university collaborations that positively impact our partners and the wider community.

The Guelph Lab, one of CESI's 5 program areas, is calling for applications from University of Guelph graduate students with excellent skills in reviewing and summarizing research. There are three positions available.

In August of 2020, CESI offered a Critical Community Engaged Scholarship Summer Intensive in collaboration with the Conservation for Reconciliation Partnership  and Coastal Routes.

The Guelph Lab is calling for applications from University of Guelph graduate students with excellent qualitative research and project management skills. In this position you will be undertaking a range of research activities working directly with community partners across a number of projects that aim to build civic literacy and improve democratic processes in Guelph.

Dr. Leah Levac, associate professor in the Department of Political Science and CESI Faculty Advisory Board (FAB) member, has just released a new co-edited collection, Creating Spaces of Engagement: Policy Justice and the Practical Craft of Deliberative Democracy.
