  Your research matters. What can you do to increase its impact and reach those who can benefit from it? Join us in this first workshop of the ‘Skills for Research Impact’ series to learn all about knowledge mobilization strategies and how to plan for research impact. In this workshop, you will:

Have you ever wanted to work with the University of Guelph, or do you have a new idea that you would love support with? The UofG Engaged Learning Collective invites community groups, social innovators, small businesses, arts organizations, advocacy groups, social purpose initiatives, and those in science and technology to meet university staff from across campus who help to facilitate community-university partnerships. 

Faculty and staff members considering or new to engaged teaching and learning are invited to join the UofG Engaged Learning Collective for an informal brown bag lunch-and-learn on Tuesday June 25 from 12-1 pm. This lunch-and-learn is open to all faculty/teaching staff who are interested in continuing discussions around experiential learning and community-university partnerships. Bring questions for staff whose role it is to facilitate community-university partnerships, and learn from faculty peers who will be on hand to share their experiences.

Data can empower your organization to create stronger proposals, develop evidence-informed programs, and demonstrate impact, but knowing where to find it and what to do with it can be a challenge. This three-hour workshop will provide an introduction to where you can find data and how you can use it in your own projects. You will learn about data management practices (e.g. backups, sharing data and licensing), data cleaning, data visualization ... and get hands-on with data using R, an open source software used for data analysis.

How does our work in knowledge mobilization and engaged research inform who we are? Join the Guelph Knowledge Translation and Transfer Community of Practice for an engaging talk on community engaged research and how it shapes the professional identities of practitioners.

What can educators do to interrupt oppression in teaching and working contexts? Plenty! And it requires courage. By looking inward and also critically examining their courses and the environment around them, educators are in a unique position to influence their peers, their course delivery and the institution itself. Moving Bravely Forward takes a deep dive into anti-oppression approaches for educators interested in shifting the quality of conversations toward greater authenticity and inclusive practice.

How can visual communication help you better share your research? Join Julia Krolik from Pixels and Plan for a 1-hour introductory workshop discussing best practices for creating and effectively disseminating research-based visual materials. This hands-on session will help you plan and develop impactful visuals. In this workshop, you will learn:

GenEQ, the University of Guelph gender equity initiative, is inviting the whole university community to an interactive conversation on how to think about equity and inclusion when planning events on campus. The event will bring together CESI's Community Engaged Learning Coordinator, Melissa Tanti, with Tommy Mayberry (Educational Developer) and Francesco Leri (Associate Dean, Research & Graduate Studies, CSAHS) in a panel of speakers moderated by Omorowa Eguakun, MA student. Join us as we spend International Women’s Day working towards a more inclusive future! ​​On March 8, 2019, CESI joins the Canadian Federation of University Women, Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis and the Zonta Club of Guelph to host a community consultation and highlight current accessibility research aimed at improving our local library.
